General Care and Cleaning Information

Fabric Upholstery
Keeping your furniture clean is an important part of helping it to last and keep that fresh new look.  Frequent cleaning with a vacuum cleaner can help remove dust you may not realize has settled on the upholstery.

Please remember, however, to NEVER remove cushion covers for separate dry-cleaning or washing.  Any tumble cleaning method can destroy the backing, shrink, or otherwise damage upholstery fabric.

Avoid any product, which contains highly toxic carbon tetrachloride.  Use a professional furniture cleaner when an overall soiled condition is reached.

Always test a small hidden area before proceeding with any cleaning application.

The upholstery fabric industry has developed four different recommended cleaning methods.  The proper cleaning code for your fabric is shown on a card attached to the “law label” under the seat cushions.  It will read “C=”, followed by one of the cleaning codes explained as follows:

S —  Spot clean, using a mild, water-free solvent or dry cleaning product.  Carefully follow instructions on such products.  Clean only in a well-ventilated room.

W —  Spot clean, using the foam only from a water-based cleaning agent, such as a mild detergent or non-solvent upholstery shampoo product.  Apply foam with a soft brush in a circular motion.  Vacuum when dry.

WS — Spot clean this fabric either with a mild solvent or a water-based cleaning agent.  When using a solvent or dry cleaning product follow instructions carefully and clean only in a well-ventilated room.  You may also use an upholstery shampoo product or the foam from a mild detergent.

X — Clean this fabric only by vacuuming or light brushing to prevent accumulation of dust or grime.  Water-based foam or solvent-based cleaning agents of any kind may cause excessive shrinking, fading, or possible pile distortion.

Leather Upholstery
Leather is one of the most durable and soil resistant materials available for upholstery.  Your leather furniture will provide many years of pleasure and comfort with minimal care and effort under most household conditions.  To ensure the care and protection of your fine leather furniture, remember the following points:

Frequent dusting with a clean, dry cloth or light vacuuming with a soft brush attachment will keep your furniture looking fresh.

Immediately blot up any liquid spills with a clean, absorbent cloth, and allow the leather to dry naturally.  Never use detergents, saddle soap, furniture polish, stain removers, turpentine, abrasive cleaning solvents, or ammonia to clean your leather.  Refer to the cleaning instructions on the furniture’s deck label for further information.

Avoid direct sunlight exposure, which can cause your leather to fade and lose softness.

Avoid placing your leather furniture near heat sources like radiators or fireplaces, as prolonged exposure to heat will dry out the leather.

Keep all sharp objects away from your furniture as they may scratch or cut your fine leather.

Mayo recommends the use of Leather Master® products when properly applied to the leather.  For additional care information call 1-800-234-8986.

SMOKING WARNING:  Keep your furniture and family safe from fires caused by careless smoking.  Do not smoke when drowsy.  Remove immediately any glowing ash or lighted cigarette, which falls on furniture.  Smoldering smoking materials can cause upholstered furniture fires.

Limited Warranty

This warranty is, to the best of our ability, a clear and realistic statement of the performance you should anticipate from your new Mayo furniture, and what to expect of us if a problem should occur.

The most visible component of your new furniture, the fabric you have selected, is also the one that will likely show the earliest signs of normal wear and use.  Fabric wear characteristics vary widely and are very difficult to predict.  Brilliant color, interesting surface texture, a pleasing touch, and other sought-after qualities in upholstery fabrics are often achieved with some trade-off in durability.

Your satisfaction with the wear of your fabric selection will, to a large degree, depend both on the manner in which you use and care for your furniture AND a realistic view on what you should expect from fabric performance.  It cannot be guaranteed that your fabric selection will perform exactly as you expect.

However, with complete confidence in our own proven internal components and construction methods, we are pleased to make you these promises:

Frame and Springing Systems – Limited Lifetime Warranty
The wood frame and spring construction will be free of manufacturing and material defects for the life of the original fabric covering.  This portion of the warranty remains in effect as long as the original cover is in place and providing normal service, but will be void in cases of obvious abuse of the furniture.

Seat Cushion Foam – Limited Lifetime Warranty
Seat cushion foam will be free of defects and maintain reasonable load-bearing strength and resiliency for the life of the original fabric covering.  Even the finest foam materials, including the seat cushions in Mayo furniture, will soften and flatten somewhat with use over time.  This is normal, and you may notice it.

However, should your Mayo seat cushion foam ever during the warranty period fall below 80% of its original compression rating (firmness) specification, or lose more than 10% of its height (flattening), it will be replaced by Mayo.  The original foam must be returned to the factory at your expense for this determination.  If failure is verified, you will receive replacement foam at no further cost.

Motion Chair, and Other Metal Mechanisms – Limited 3 Year Warranty
Motion mechanisms will be free of defect and structural failure for a period of three years.  Bending or warping caused by improper operation or extraordinary stress can normally be corrected in the field with little expertise, and would not be considered structural failure.  Obvious abuse will void this warranty.

Tailoring, and Other Considerations – Limited 1 Year Warranty
Mayo further warrants, for one year from purchase date, that your furniture will be free of tailoring and padding defects.  This includes such occurrences as seam or button failures, and abnormal shifting or compacting of padding materials.

A word about polyester fiber-filled backs and pillows.  The particular comfort and appearance achieved only with fiber is highly desirable.  But polyester fiber of even the highest quality will pack to some extent over time as the individual fibers gradually align and pack together.  This characteristic is not considered a defect under this warranty.  Fortunately, the fibers can be separated by hand and “re-fluffed” to near-new condition.  Attached backs with fiber filling are zippered when practical to allow easy access for adjusting or adding filling.

Upholstery Fabric – Limited 1 Year Warranty
Mayo’s position on fabric performance is based on the policies of the mills that actually manufacture the fabrics for the upholstered furniture industry.  These mills do NOT warrant your fabric against fading, pilling, flagging, shrinking, staining, or matting.  Therefore, neither does Mayo.  Mayo does warrant the fabric on your new furniture against obvious failures of weave or fiber strength, which exclude the above conditions, for one year from purchase date.  This warranty is valid under conditions of normal care and use only, and will be void in cases of misuse, abuse, or failure to keep the furniture reasonably clean.

Some fabrics may be covered by a special warranty issued directly to the consumer by the fiber or fabric manufacturer.  Mayo furniture covered in these fabrics will have a tag attached explaining that warranty.

Please be aware that most fabric mills consider the application of any fabric protection treatment to be a chemical and physical alteration of the fabric. Thus, they will assume no responsibility for the fabric’s performance after such a treatment. Any such application therefore voids this fabric warranty.

Leather – Limited 1 Year Warranty
Leather upholstery cover is warranted against splitting and tearing for one year from purchase date.  Leather is a natural product with variations in grain, color, and markings from one hide to another.  These variations and distinguishing marks are to be expected and are not covered by this warranty.  Damage due to cuts, burns, pet damage, spills, excessive soiling, improper cleaning or application of chemical products by the retail dealer or consumer, excessive exposure to sunlight or heat, or abuse of the product is not covered.

Warranty Service
For services under this warranty, you must report the problem within 30 days after discovery of the defect, and before the expiration of the applicable warranty period.  Should you need service under the terms of this warranty, contact the retailer from whom you purchased your furniture.  To validate your coverage you must, at the time of your claim, furnish a copy of your purchase invoice showing date, description of product, and amount paid.  The retailer will report the claim and related information to Mayo and assist us in arranging service.

If the problem is covered under this warranty, Mayo will repair or replace the item, at our option.  Should Mayo factory repair be necessary, transportation between your retailer and the factory will be arranged at no charge to you if Mayo company trucks are used to service your dealer.  Otherwise, you will be responsible for shipping costs to and from the factory.  Transportation from your home to the retailer is your responsibility, and any costs of such are not covered by this warranty.

Mayo factory repairs are given top priority, but the total time you will be without your furniture will depend greatly upon transportation logistics, and may extend to several weeks.

Repair under warranty coverage will be performed only to the extent necessary to correct the warranty problem.  Fabric parts replaced during repair may vary significantly from original in shade or pattern.

This warranty is extended to you, the original purchaser only, and begins on your purchase date.  It applies only in cases of normal residential usage, and does not cover any furniture purchased as damaged, distressed, seconds, or in “as is” condition.

Mayo shall under no circumstances be responsible for any incidental or consequential damages, and in no event shall the responsibility of Mayo exceed the purchase price of this product or its replacement.

Mayo does not authorize any person to create for it any other obligation or liability in connection with the furniture products it manufactures.

Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitation may not apply to you.

Any implied warranties concerning the various components of this product run for the same duration as the written warranty for these components.

Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, so the above limitations may not apply to you.

This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may have other rights which may vary from state to state.

Thank you!

From the Mayo Family and our many hard-working associates, thank you for honoring us with a place in your home. We hope you enjoy your furniture in good health for many years to come.
